Larrakia Nation Arts, Darwin

Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation was set up in 1997 to represent the interests and further the aspirations of the eight Larrakia families, particularly with respect to Native Title. Administered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act, it is a dynamic, membership-based organisation, and a major Aboriginal service delivery and business development organisation in the areas of community services, homelessness support, land and sea monitoring and management and arts, culture and knowledge.

VISION

“to be a strong, self-sufficient and healthy Nation of Larrakia people, participating fully in the wider economy of Darwin and the Northern Territory, where Larrakia language, law and culture is known, respected and valued by all members of that community”

The Cultural Knowledge Unit helps preserve and develop Larrakia and other Aboriginal people’s cultural knowledge. At the same time, we help community members to sustain livelihoods based on this cultural knowledge.

Cultural Knowledge includes art, dance, music, and traditional healing. More generally, it also includes Aboriginal knowledge sustainability through research projects and training programs.
